Republicans have responded to the State of the Union Address. KSMU's Michele Skalicky has more...

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt says President Obama said a lot of the right things in his State of the Union Address. But he says Americans now expect action in addition to words.

He says the president’s speech should have been about jobs and too much government spending. Instead, he says it was about investment, which he calls “just another word for more government spending.”

Congressman Billy Long says he usually agrees with 80% of what the president says and disagrees with 80% of what he does. Long said, ‘quote,’ “I’m from the Show-Me State, so Mr. President, it is time for you to show me.

President Obama stressed unity in his State of the Union address. He called for increased spending on education, research, technology and transportation to make the nation more competitive.

The president is proposing a five-year freeze on nondefense spending to reduce the deficit by more than $400 billion over the next decade. He said the government has to face the fact that it’s spending more than it’s taking in.
